As the December holiday season is upon us, there could not be a better time to celebrate a new post website. Yes, that’s right—not only a new one, but our first! Over the last few months, some of us have anticipated our first website like a child eagerly awaiting Christmas morning. And I suppose, as the creator of this website, it felt a little like opening that first present carefully wrapped under the Christmas tree with care. I hope my veteran friends will give their formal “stamp of approval” as this website rolls out this holiday season. They may not realize it, but this website has a much higher purpose than showcasing an American Legion post.
I want them to understand that I gave it my all not because it was enjoyable struggling with being creative and technically savvy, which it was, but more so it was important to me on a personal level — a level that transcends our earthly bounds. As I strive to gain God’s acceptance in such a mortal and harsh world, I am reminded how many of us continue to struggle supporting our children and families, dealing with post traumatic stress disorder, depression, alcohol and drug addiction, and grieving the loss of our brother and sisters, along with the daily grind of life.
Furthermore, I realize that the holiday season for many families and veterans can be especially difficult. But I’m here to say, you are not alone and this website in its infancy can be your door and gateway to a whole new world through all that the American Legion has to offer. Yet, perhaps more importantly, it can be your gateway to fellowship, discipleship, and the humble ministry that we attempt to provide with each and every meeting as we struggle with own growth to help support our fellow veterans and families through American Legion programs and services.
It is my hope as the days, weeks, and months go on this website will become a living historical record. A record that documents our on-going work to seek out new like-minded membership and leadership that will embody our efforts to revitalize and reinforce our own Christian-based values while promoting the services and programs of the American Legion. As you can see, today we celebrate not only a new website—we celebrate a new milestone for a brand new American Legion post as we attempt to reach out to fellow veterans like Doug Dunaway.
As our resources provide, we will look to populate our website with the good stuff, i.e. information meaningful and useful to our members and readership. We’re interested in providing for our service members and their families the best we can as a small post looking to grow. We’re looking for new members with like minded goals, and values. If you’re interested in a “new post startup,” and willing to contribute in a meaningful way to your fellow patriots—Great!—we’re looking for you. If you’re down and out, and looking for spiritual fellowship then you may be looking for us.
In the great tradition of the American Legion, we are here to emphasize God and Country. If you’re interested in God and if you’re at all interested in your Country don’t you owe it to yourself to give us a look. You may need us as much as we need you.
